They are extremely good at what they do.

This is not quite accurate. India doesn't export much 'software' products. But they do offer lot of services, like support call centers for renown IT organisations. such as IBM, Sybase, Sybage, Infosys, Mphasis ++. The foreign revenue they generate out of these call centers are considered as a revenue generated from Software Products, though it's not, in reality. Hence, this misunderstanding that the India is exporting lot of software.

(The call centers of Mphasis + Infosys + Sybage at Pune have over 12,000 workforce.)

So these call centers got nothing to do with technology, they don't offer any technical support over the phone but handling basic queries. They bring huge amount of foreign revenue to the country.

Sadly, the call centers are listed as IT/Software organisations giving us/everyone a wrong picture. We all assume they export lot of software, based on these figures, however, in reality the software products going out from India are very less.

The quality of the softwares what India produces are questionable, as well as the resources you find over there. You'd surely get the quantity in India but not the quality.

The FOSS products what India has are even worse. Sri Lanka is well ahead , when it comes to FOSS products.

I had the same feeling as what you've thought, but it got changed during my 10month stay over there in India, after interacting with indian SW engineers from various companies, including Satyam, Sybage, Infosys++

Cheers
Tyronne Whttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12772641484151987555noreply@blogger.com
